Chinese lunar age calculator
Your traditional Chinese age — the number the gender chart expects — computed precisely from the real lunisolar tables, with your zodiac and next Lunar New Year thrown in.
Chinese age counts you as 1 at birth, +1 at every Lunar New Year.
Why is my Chinese age older than my real age?
Two rules add years. First, every baby is age 1 at birth (九天下 experimental counting aside — the womb counts). Second, everyone gains a year at Chinese New Year, not on their birthday. So a mother born December 20, 1994 is already 2 on January 1, 1996 — two New Years have passed since her lunar birth year began. That's why the chart's rows are 18–45 while typical Western ages run 17–44.
The exact formula (for the curious)
Lunar age = (lunar year of the moment − lunar birth year) + 1. The lunar birth year uses the lunar year that was running on the day you were born: born before Chinese New Year? Your lunar birth year is one less than your Gregorian one. Our calculator embeds the full 1900–2100 conversion tables — the same precision the gender predictor uses.
