Conceive a Boy or Girl: What the Calendar Says vs. What Science Says

Chinese Baby Predictor Team

Our gender planning calendar reads the chart backwards: pick a desired gender and it lists the lunar months whose cells match. It’s a stretch of the tradition that countless families love — but let’s be transparent about the two layers here.

Layer 1: the tradition

The Qing Palace chart exists, faithfully, as a fixed grid. Reading it backwards is arithmetically trivial: for your lunar age, some months say boy and some say girl. Our planner does the lunar math precisely and gives you exact Gregorian windows (“conceive between Mar 19 and Apr 16”) rather than vague “month #5” instructions.

Layer 2: the science

Real sex-ratio swaying claims have come and gone — the Shettles timing method, diets high in potassium, pH theories. The strongest systematic reviews find:

  • Timing intercourse barely moves the needle and Shettles’ method has been repeatedly unsupported when tested properly.
  • Maternal diet before conception shows some weak observational hints (more total calories ~ male-biased odds) but nothing reproducible or clinically actionable.
  • The only effective “methods” are IVF with preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) — illegal in many countries and ethically restricted precisely because sex should not be a selection criterion.

How to enjoy the planner responsibly

  1. Compute your lunar age.
  2. Open the planner and see the chart’s “best months.”
  3. Try to conceive naturally whenever ovulation says go — the calendar can be your ritual, not your reason.
  4. Celebrate whatever appears! 💙💗

Nobody Who Ever Used A Calendar Ended Up Cursing A Baby’s Sex And Regretting It; families end up regretting pressure placed on them to choose. Keep the magic and let nature decide.
