How to read the chart without an app

Each row is a lunar age — remember: Chinese tradition counts you as age 1 at birth and bumps you up at Chinese New Year, so your lunar age is usually 1–2 years older than your Western one. Each column is a lunar month — lunar months start at the new moon, so their Gregorian boundaries wander (e.g., lunar month 1 of 2026 begins Feb 17, 2026). Where your row and column meet sits the verdict: blue or pink.

The 2026 edition changes the calendar, never the grid

There is exactly one authentic chart — the same cells every year. "2026" changes only the date math: Chinese New Year 2026 lands on February 17, and lunar months start on different Gregorian dates than in 2025 or 2027. Our interactive version does that date math live, so a January 2026 conception correctly belongs to lunar year 2025's months — the exact mistake handmade charts make.

Leap months (& why charts disagree)

Some lunar years have 13 months; the chart doesn't. Most predictors map a leap-month conception to its base month — we do the same, but flag it on your result so you know which convention was applied. This single choice explains most of the "two calculators gave different answers" folklore drama online.

Chart FAQ

How do I read the 2026 Chinese gender chart?

Find the mother’s lunar age on the left (18–45), slide across to the lunar month of conception, and read the cell: blue for boy, pink for girl. The chart only works with correctly converted lunar dates — our converter above does the hard part for you.

Why does everyone’s “2026 chart” look the same?

Because the authentic chart never changes. A “2026 edition” is really the same grid plus the 2026 lunar calendar mapping, so you can translate your Western dates into the right lunar month and age.

What happens with leap months?

Some lunar years have 13 months — for example, the leap month in 2025. Most predictors (including ours) map a leap-month conception to its base month and note it on your result, since the classic chart has no separate leap column.

Is the chart different for twins?

The chart was never designed for multiples — it predicts one boy/girl cell from one pregnancy, so it can’t be more than a charming coin flip for twins. For twins, each baby’s sex still depends on genetics, not calendars.
